A leading energy economist in the International Energy Agency reported today, in an interview with The Independent, that the world’s oil supply has been depleting almost twice as fast as their 2007 projection, and that an energy supply crisis is looming in the next five years that will choke off any economic recovery.
“We have to leave oil before oil leaves us,” said Dr. Fatih Birol of the IEA. “The earlier we start, the better, because all of our economic and social system is based on oil, so to change from that will take a lot of time and a lot of money and we should take this issue very seriously,” he said.
It’s been over two years now since the World Without Oil game got people to collectively imagine our next oil crisis, and prepare for this day. Moves by the CFTC to try and regulate the oil trading market and prevent the kind of speculation which has seen crude oil prices rise from $30 per barrel back towards $70+ this year took an interesting twist yesterday when it was announced that the weekly COT data would now include new details on the aggregate holdings of the big Wall Street dealers, hedge funds and other financial participants. COT data is a useful market sentiment tool but as many of the market participants both hedge and speculate it has become increasingly difficult to analyse. According to the CFTC the new format will be making its debut next Friday.

Two-thirds of the world’s oil reserves lie in the Middle East and increasing demand will have to be met with massive increases in supply from this region.
We were predicting things pretty much exactly as they have played out. Then as now we were wondering what it would take to get people to listen.

One thing is crystal clear that we cannot survive without oil.
It is impossible to survive without oil in the the present day advancing era. it is impossible to keep pace without fuel. one can’t imagine life without oil…no planes, no cars no transportation…everything standstill. can you imagine life in such a scenario? No No don’t wanna think of that day.

We have to leave oil before oil leaves us. I’m very agree with that motto, because one day oil will definitely end. We have to work hard and prepare for that day – through all kind of research and development on alternatives to oil, on which living standards we want to keep and what alternative ways we can find.

Oil will not just “run out” because all oil production follows a bell curve. This is true whether we’re talking about an individual field, a country, or on the planet as a whole.

As we know, America is the world’s biggest oil consumer. I think It’s entirely possible to cut projected U.S. oil consumption in half by 2025, and eliminate it completely by 2050, without compromising rapid economic growth. Demand could be halved simply by using oil twice as efficiently over several decades, the other half could be replaced with saved natural gas and advanced biofuels.

yep… I think It’s to late to realize what we’ve done to the earth because of oil. The Damage Has Been Done, Global Warming.

Nuclear, coal, wind, solar, natural gas, geothermal, hydro, bring it all. Whatever it takes to reduce our dependence on foreign oil is what needs to start happening now.
